It's said that Charlie Parker the legend would sit down for hours running up and down his horn playing scales. What I understand, he would take his scales and play them through as many conceivable patterns that he could possibly come up with. It's great that you can play your 12 Major scales linearly. However, that is not enough to develop a clean and solid technique. Knowing how to play your major scales linearly is the bare bones, the skeleton structure. The skeletal form is super important, but consider it like letters of the English alphabet. To build great technique, fluidity, and having the ability to improvise means that you take each scale and practice them in various patterns, not just in one key or a handful of keys but through all 12 keys. Take a few letters of the alphabet, combine them to make one word, then find 12 different scenarios to use that word. You will be more expressive in your writing and speaking than someone who only knows how to use that one word in only one or two sentences. Don't settle for just the bare bones of your major scales. Learn different scale shapes and never worry about where your fingers are going next. Learning your scales in various patterns will keep you from asking such questions as, how do I improvise or how do I use these to improvise? Without thinking, those patterns will naturally flow through your playing as natural as words flow from your lips when conversing in your mother tongue. Don't settle for less!
